Calcium chloride (CaCl₂, CAS 10043-52-4) is one of the most versatile industrial salts. It is highly soluble, strongly hygroscopic and releases heat as it dissolves — properties that make it useful from winter roads to oil wells. This guide covers its main uses and what to specify when ordering.

Main applications

  • De-icing and anti-icing. Calcium chloride works at lower temperatures than sodium chloride, and the heat it releases on dissolving helps it melt ice quickly.
  • Dust control. Spread on unpaved roads, mine haul roads and construction sites, it draws moisture from the air and keeps the surface damp, binding fine dust.
  • Concrete acceleration. It speeds up setting and early strength gain, which is useful in cold weather. Chloride-based accelerators are generally not used in reinforced or prestressed concrete because of the corrosion risk to steel.
  • Oil and gas drilling. Calcium chloride brines are used in drilling and completion fluids for density control and shale inhibition.
  • Moisture control. As a desiccant, it absorbs humidity in containers, warehouses and industrial drying.
  • Water treatment and agriculture. It is used to add calcium hardness to water and as a calcium source in animal feed and agriculture.

Grades and forms

Calcium chloride is sold as flakes, granules, prills or powder, and as a liquid brine. Solid grades differ mainly in CaCl₂ content: the dihydrate is typically around 74–77%, while anhydrous grades are around 94% or higher. Confirm the assay you need, because dose rates for de-icing, dust control and brine make-up are calculated on it. Kranti Chemicals supplies calcium chloride as white granules or flakes; the current assay is confirmed on each batch COA.

Packing and storage

Packing25 kg bags · 50 kg bags · jumbo bags
Indicative MOQ5,000 kg
StorageKeep bags sealed in a dry, covered area
HandlingHygroscopic; dissolving releases heat — see SDS for PPE

Because calcium chloride absorbs moisture readily, opened bags cake or liquefy if left exposed. Order bag sizes your site can use promptly once opened, and store pallets off the floor under cover.

Ordering checklist

  • Form (flakes, granules or powder) and target CaCl₂ assay
  • Bag size and palletisation
  • Quantity and delivery schedule — seasonal products like de-icing salt are best ordered ahead of demand
  • COA and SDS for each consignment
